Avoiding oversimplification
We want everything to be easy. For the solution to be simple.
We reduce the complex to one word.
Yet responses to some of humanity’s biggest problems are not reducible to one word or feeling.
Love is not the whole answer. Love is vital. A foundation. Yet love itself is nuanced. People do terrible things for love.
The great quote about Mary and Joseph being Middle Eastern people seeking refuge is worth remembering. So many religions hold love as a central thesis, yet in today’s world, we would not offer shelter to Mary and Joseph.
Love plus systems that support the increased well-being of all, plus affirmative action in the world, plus the hard work of healing relationships…
Is just the start.
