Perspective

It is easy to talk about billions and trillions as if they are stones on a beach.

Like children without the developmental experience to know the difference between a day and a year, the majority of humans, myself included, have little capacity to understand the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire.

From the fringes has emerged a conversation about how we can possibly revere any billionaire when we have a single child going hungry, a single child being enslaved. The truth is we have millions of hungry children, millions of people enslaved and a rising number of billionaires.

The neoliberal propaganda machine has done a good job in having us place these billionaires on pedestals. They mythology is that they worked so hard that they deserve their billions. They at least worked as hard as the women who walks six hours a day just to get clean water for her children before she goes to work.

The mythology is deeply flawed. From place of birth to education, to networks, to the social services they receive in tax breaks, or zero tax, to graft and corruption, to extracting and exploitation, the climb to billions is over the backs of human beings. Our backs. Our data, our time, our input.

Perhaps it is time we created a different story. Perhaps it is time we revered  people for what they truly give to support all human and Earth thriving?

Perspective…consider this…

“It would take almost 12 days for a million seconds to elapse and 31.7 years for a billion seconds. Therefore, a trillion seconds would amount to no less than 31,709.8 years. A trillion seconds ago, there was no written history. The pyramids had not yet been built.”
