Listening to the great talk by Harvard Historian Nancy Koehn on Crisis Leadership, she mentioned VUCA.

Even the way it sounds has a thunderbolt type feel to it. It also reminds me of a sexy Latin dance, a new ‘salsa’. Where the steps are fast, the music hot, the dance a flash of colour. Totally compelling to watch when done well. Beautiful, exciting, unpredictable.

Turbulence is the new normal.

VUCA reminds us that we live in a world of accelerated acceleration, where we simply must learn to live with, respond to, and build intelligence around volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity.

How fast can you move and adapt as a leader? How agile are you really? How do you respond to rapid change? How resilient are you?

And what about your company? Does your organisation constantly gather signals from multiple sources on the winds of change, globally and locally? Do you have the ability to adapt with speed? Or is your business so focused on business as usual that you are already out of step with today?

No matter what you do, the time to learn the VUCA dance is now, and now, and now.
