Humility is the antidote to division
I have, in my past, been nasty to people. Arrogant. Dismissive. Certainly righteous. Superior.
The seeds of any form of racism, sexism, fundamentalism….might come from the same ground.
The place where we think we are superior to, better than…another.
Until we address this in ourselves until we go to the core of the core, the root of the root, of our lizard reflex to be superior, smarter, better than, more powerful than…
We will continue to have all the colours of discrimination thrive.
Humility…humis…soil….dirt…earth….back, back, back…to ground…to the muck and petri dish of life…to recognise that no matter the heights we achieve, we return to soil…all of us.
That to hit the dirt, be brought to our knees, be that through sickness, despair, being broken…is not the end.
It is the beginning.
Only those who have gone deeply into the place inside that feels lack…surrendering this too to the Earth…
Can stand, feet rooted in Earth, humble, and no longer need to be better than, superior too…
It is a journey that takes time.
Knowing this we might allow ourselves to change. To forgive ourselves for being that righteous, superior person….now able to show up with humility.
And we might extend this opportunity to others.
Humility is the antidote to division.
