Intellectual Humility
There can be great delight in a robust debate, where there is a willingness to consider opposing arguments and where each party is open to consider that their strongly held position may be in need of an upgrade.
It is hard to admit that we might have been wrong. Perhaps we did not have the full range of information. Perhaps we were missing perspective and context.
If our minds are closed, if we are not able to sit with intellectual humility, then we live in the world of fundamentalist righteousness. The subject matter is irrelevant.
What would we gain as humanity if we could cultivate a culture of curiosity rather than conviction?
