It doesn’t make it right
An atrocity does not grant the right to a reciprocal atrocity. These tit-for-tat games are childish to the extreme.
Show me a single episode from history where the revenge act creates peace.
The Hydra from Greek Mythology is a multi-headed serpent. Each time you chop off one head, you get two more. Terrorism is like this. Chop one head, and you get two to replace it. In plain English, trying to kill a terrorist organisation only begets more terrorists. This happens on both sides, even the side that protests victim status. More killing equals more killing equals more killing.
Yet the innocent pay as the madmen play.
The innocent pay. Children. Mothers. Grandparents.
Foolish men, hell-bent on destruction at any price, twisted into gargoyles with hate.
Nothing, nothing at all, makes atrocity right. It never satiates the desire for revenge and power. It becomes a hungry ghost, a cancer that will consume the host.
My heart breaks as this lesson plays out yet again, ignored by blood lust and rage.
