Symmathesy

Learning together in a healthy team is additive and emergent.

The learning builds upon itself like a spiral dance, transcending the individual contributions.

Nora Bateson, an award-winning filmmaker, writer, facilitator and educator, coined a new word for this.

“Symmathesy (Noun): An entity composed by contextual mutual learning through interaction. This process of interaction and mutual learning takes place in living entities at larger or smaller scales of symmathesy.

Symmathesy (Verb): to interact within multiple variables to produce a mutual learning context.”

People coming together intent on symmathesy is simply one of the most delightful human engagements I know.

Nature and on occasion, humans, love the dance of learning together.
