Unfamiliar. Never walked. Never seen. Never experienced.
In days past the adventuring pioneers would set a course to discover new lands. It was dangerous. High risk. They might never return.
They did not have maps. Everything was uncharted.
If they returned they returned as the map makers.
Here…this is how we did it. This is where to go. You might do this and not that. Take this with you, leave this behind.
Humans have few obvious domains that are Terra Incognita..unknown lands …space, the oceans, the interiors of our own minds….
The biggest Terra Incognita we have to navigate urgently is the way we inhabit our home planet.
Our current maps are killing life as we know it. And that would include you and me.
To look to a future that has healthy human life in it, including you and me, and our billions of fellow brothers and sisters, we require new maps.
Become the map makers.
Urgent work. Not for the faint-hearted.
“Humans wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success.”
PS. This advert was supposed to be Shackleton’s cry for a crew. I have replaced the word Men with Humans. The advert might be an urban myth, never-the-less, it is a good story.
