The effort to hold up a house of cards

So many people speak of the effort to change things. How hard it is. The amount of investment required to build the infrastructure.

There is little inquiry as to the cost of keeping the current model working. The effort to maintain pretence. To keep an illusion of beauty, youth, style alive.

To govern the red tape. To police the petty while stepping over the gross. To build the prison industrial complex for profit.

To elect presidents.

If we are to consider the cost of actually building a world with a future for all, we might consider the all-in-accounting cost to hold up the house of cards and in that realise that the effort and investment is indeed a savings in most every domain.
