The Precessional Effects of a Virus

Precession=The effects that occur at 90 degrees to the action….

When we look back at this time we will see more clearly the precessional effects of this global contagion.

Some things are becoming apparent already.

When a government says they do not have money to fund a viable social net or better health care, the people will be less likely to believe it. The Neoliberal trajectory of the past 4 decades will no longer stand scrutiny.

A conversation around a Universal Basic Income will not be perceived as impossible.

People will not be content to go back to work that erodes our Souls, and precious time with family, and loved ones. Nor will they accept the terrible wages of what we had perceived as irrelevant work, but what is now known as essential work. And those who trade invisible digits to make more invisible digits might be seen as contributing little value at all.

The erosion of the Commons, our education, health care, infrastructure, open spaces, waterways, parks….will not be tolerated. Nor will we tolerate the sale of public assets to private companies with the false story of better more affordable management.

The idea that the only way to thrive and survive is to be the strong man individual might finally have met the end of its days.

Re-connection with home cooked, home grown, home tended…with craft…

The recognition that so much of our spending is unnecessary…those who peddle irrelevance might need to pivot hard towards creating and selling real value.

Breathable air is not optional.

Fish will regenerate as the export markets collapse…fish allowed to spawn in peace for the first time in decades.

Travel for work will be questioned….just how much of this do we need to do…

Post-virus the experience economy is likely to boom….travel for adventure, to discover new cultures, to be with family on distant shores…

Simple gatherings…family, food, outdoors..become cherished…

The precession of this virus is where the juicy story, the more beautiful future for Earth and all her creatures live. Towards this, we might turn.
