Too easy
If it is too easy we lose the sense of value.
If learning is a breeze it loses its meaning and becomes boring.
If gaining entry into a community is easy we fail from the beginning to bring a heightened sense of commitment. That extra stretch doesn’t have to be financial. There are many thresholds we might cross.
So often the skills that come easily to us we discount, ignore and step over. Yet for others they might be incredibly valuable.
We need to find the place between easy and hard, where a level of desirable difficulty is evident.
When we are designing social thresholds, desirable difficulty of access is a key design feature.
