What is ownership

Asking hard questions like what is ownership might be the way for us to begin to create a world with a future.

To examine long-held human-constructed ideas like what is ownership, what is money, what is profit, what is value.

What is ownership? We now recognise that to assume ownership of another human violates an aspect of our very humanity.

We are beginning to recognise that land ownership is not always the best way to steward land.

And some are questioning the way we own enterprises. That the traditional models of shares, equity, power, control…do not always create an alignment between the Source Idea we are seeking to bring to life and the purpose of doing so.

In many situations, there is clear evidence that inviting those who are working hard to bring the enterprise to life to become steward owners rather than having power and control be held by a very small group, or with the shareholders, keeps the Source Idea and its pattern integrity and purpose more coherent and aligned.

When we recognise that we are all a whole and a part of a larger whole, that we are connected to all, we might understand that assuming ownership is to continue the story of our atomisation and separation and as such to continue the path of breakdown of the ecology of life.

To be a steward of, rather than an owner…invites a different story.
