The purpose of a business hack spans several spectrum’s.
1. It is a very deeply considered and low risk way of becoming certain as a business owner of the path you need to take to remain profitable and ahead of the game. Here is how a business hack works. Together we carefully select a group of stakeholders…customers, service providers, staff, board, executive team, potential clients…to come together for the hack. All of these people will be contributors to the hack, utilising the principle of multiple intelligence, co-working, synergy and collaboration. The whole hack is facilitated with a high degree of skill by the chief hacker.
Phase 1. Hack In. In the first phase we challenge and explore every single assumption that exists in the business. From purpose, values, mission, activities, product design and delivery, marketing, sales, training and development, systems, structures, culture, relationships, human resources, IT, legal, accounting, governance, business structure, business model…etc…
The point is not to ever make anything explicitly wrong, or right..but simply to open the conversation of inquiry as to why you do what you do, what is the result in the immediate and wider field, how this adds or detracts from. Let’s face it, as business owners and entrepreneurs, we rarely get time to truly do this, and yet we know intuitively the value of doing exactly this.
Phase 2. Seeding. At this point we introduce new tools and models, new perspectives, new systems. This is done either through the experienced chief hacker, or with the added input of selected guest contributors who are masters in their field. We aim to introduce models and tools that are at the very edge of the future of business, that transcend triple bottom line, and other current management and business tools. Again, all with the continued contribution of the whole of the hack participants. Seeding is not for the purpose of deployment of these new models, but for the purpose of exploration as to what is possible for your business within the context of the immediate now and the future. How do new ways of thinking, doing and being potentially affect your business?
Phase 3. Hack Up. In the final part of the hack process, we consider all that we have learned and add to this the perspective of the global, national and local issues, both the current circumstances and the potential future circumstances. No business will survive without consideration of the larger global issues at play. But few businesses really take the time to consider this on a regular basis. We now ‘re-imagine’ the business and its potential in light of all that we have learned and discussed.
End Result. The business leaders will have a very clear and well examined perspective of how to craft the next stage of their business, what changes to make and why. Their perspectives will be significantly expanded. They will know exactly what they need to do to ensure their business stays healthy, viable and well prepared to meet the future.
