Prophets without substance

Prophets without substance

We believed the earth was flat. Imagine that?

We believed that the earth was the centre of the Universe.

We believed that it was not necessary to wash our hands prior to surgery. In 1865, a Hungarian physician, Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis, was committed to an asylum as he suffered a nervous breakdown. The reason: he suggested that doctors should wash their hands after examining a patient.

We are in the midst of a global pandemic with a novel virus that humanity has not experienced before.

And yet we have so many ‘experts’ who believe in this and that. I am sitting at a cafe writing this as someone is half an hour into her monologue on how we should be approaching this current crisis. As if anyone actually knows?

We have governments who sprout open up policies as exciting with no real clue as to the effects, even as other jurisdictions seem to indicate the break in health care capacity and the rise in deaths.

We know hardly anything about long COVID. About how long COVID affects children.

Yet the prophets keep at it. Their certainty and ‘expertise’ loud. The tools of their trade half baked data sets pulled from half baked propaganda sites. While there is often an element of truth in many things that do not make the whole truthful. The greatest cons are when some truth lives in the con.

Only the future will tell us the truth. We might be wise to proceed with caution, humility and true care for the health and wellbeing of everyone.
