A whale encounter

A whale encounter

This time it was me. After weeks out of the water for a host of reasons, it was back today, seeking to gather my surfing confidence.

Winter surfing. Cold wind. Blue skies.

And then a whale. Right beside me.

I missed the best part of it, facing the wrong way, as the whale surfaced within meters from where I sat on my board.

I marvel at these majestic creatures. We are so blessed that they are protected in our waters. Hundreds make the migration from Antarctica up the East coast of Australia to the warmer waters to breed before turning around and heading back.

They are often seen close to surfers. I have watched, jealous.

Today it was my turn.

I am humbled.
