Normalisation of horror

Normalisation of horror

A Little Atrocity is a small, seemingly insignificant violation of ethics and integrity that paves the way for another Little Atrocity until evil results.

As Hannah Arendt wrote about the banality of evil, there is an accumulation over time that paves the way for horror to become banal.

Here we are.

Again.

In 2025 we ho-hum genocide.

Again.

Because it is not happening to the superior race.

The world turns away.

Again.

The insanity of this is that one of the current genocides is being inflicted by the very people who suffered one of the most horrific of all genocides.

The beaten child becomes a child beater.

But governments, still paying their shame and guilt tax for allowing that horrific genocide during the 1940s to occur, stand beside the current child-beater, giving them arms, permission and applause.

We have normalised horror. One Little Atrocity at a time.

The work of those of us who hold all life as sacred is increasingly important.

One of the many practices we can cultivate is to NEVER step over that first Little Atrocity.
