Maintaining a grounded response

I have just spent four days in my version of a health spa.

By the beach. In a National Park. No hot water. (It is summer here.)

Three hours of surfing a day – arms so tired I could hardly lift them. Back and neck stiff from paddling. Exhausted not just from the exercise but from the time spent in the elements.

Eating food to fuel. A simple pleasure in itself. Wholesome, healthy campfire food.

Cocooned at night in our little van. The sounds of the native creatures. The cry of the dingos.

Afternoons spent napping and reading.

The honest sleep that comes from physical exhaustion.

Minimal wifi, shutting the sound of the world out.

My soul feels nourished. The time away from thinking about anything other than the immediate moment, priceless.

The rage that has been simmering below the surface of my being calm for now.

I know it will return. But with it will come greater clarity and perspective afforded me by a truly natural health spa.

In these dangerous times, where the codes of decency have been distorted/twisted/deformed/extorted by those to whom they’ve been entrusted, taking time out to recalibrate, to soul nourish, to gather all the pieces back together, is critical to maintaining a grounded response to the systemic cruelty.
