A waste of ingenuity

On this day, June 8th, the first real taste of winter arrived. It comes with cloudless skies and a stunning dawn.

The first migrating whale is spotted, heading north to warmer waters to breed. 

In my part of the world, we really only have two seasons. Summer and Winter. 

Humans embrace the change of seasons as routine. 

Yet other changes we fight. 

As our climate destabilises, even the seasons’ changes do not fit an expected pattern. The water temperature here is far too warm. This little statistic comes with dire consequences. Ocean temperature literally seeds destruction on land, often far from the warm oceans, making the two experiences feel uncorrelated. 

Change in almost every human-constructed system, like the weather, has reached the point beyond containment and predictability. 

The minute action results in catastrophe. 

Catastrophe will become normal for almost everyone and most of our creatures.  

Those people who insist, right now, on perpetuating the catastrophe know of its immanence, possibly more than most. They build bunkers and dream of Mars. Behind their thinking is the 2025 version of Eugenics: Let the elite survive while the minions do not. 

I wonder what it will take, if that is possible, for humanity to consider, using 100% of the wisdom of humanity, genius and technology, to create a world that works for 8.5 billion people, rather than focus on more for the few, bunkers for the few, and the fastest way to rape and pillage into the halls of power. 

Truly a waste of ingenuity.
