When we have nothing to hide
One of my favourite quotes of all time is;
In my vulnerability, I become invulnerable. A Course in Miracles.
When I can stand in my full vulnerability, when I own my shame, shadow, past and present actions, I become invulnerable, impervious to an attack of words.Â
To be transparent is a form of freedom. Little energy is spent on the protection of the discovery of what it is we do not want others to see.
When we have something to hide, when we refuse transparency, when we invest effort in covering up and obfuscating, the energy to do so is significant.Â
Hiding, lying and cheating all come with a cost. To keep hidden the cost increases with each iteration, with each moment the deception needs to be protected.
Eventually, people begin to wonder what is being hidden behind such an investment.Â
What is behind the facade? What is behind the wall? What are we unable to see?Â
Why exterminate the journalists, silence the critics and refuse witness?Â
The pattern is the same throughout history.
Until the walls come down and all is exposed.
And the people cry, never again.Â
Until we are back at again.
Again.
My heart breaks.Â
