Meet the moment with boldness
Do we not long for this from our elected leaders?
To stand for something, unequivocally.Â
To meet the moment with boldness, rather than cower under the pressure of the middle, the safe, the low risk.
I watch as my Prime Minister, once upon a time an activist, surrenders to the grey zone of fear. You might argue that he took bold action by initiating a referendum on the Indigenous voice to Parliament, yet even that action was not backed by boldness, by calling out the lies and propaganda, by naming the propaganda machine directly. It was a half-arsed attempt, trying to appease too many. It needed relentless boldness to even have a hope of winning.
We live in a polarising time. Boldness, naming clearly, no fluff, calling lies, asking better questions, fully facing the music, not deflecting, or bullshitting…this is what is demanded.Â
Name it, deliver. Repeat.
An example is Zohran Mamdani, the New York City Mayor.
Be like him.Â
It is not possible to hold the centre and be bold.Â
Bold is the edge.
On the edge are danger and others’ dislike.
On the edge, we do make mistakes. On the edge, we have to emerge, no recipe, no path to follow.Â
The fear is present, but the purpose is stronger.Â
Bold, or mediocre. Not the middle.
