A lie is a lie

A lie is a lie

I would prefer not to use the word lie, says a campaign manager to Donald Trump in an interview I heard on the BBC World Service early this morning.

In this statement are the seeds of evil. Evil that sets a stage for fascism.

I defer to the remarkable Hannah Arendt, and her work on the banality of evil.

I have written and spoken many times before about how language creates culture. We think words are innocuous, to be ignored. We use words without consideration of the source code they carry.

The regenerative movement has seized upon the word impact, which means to hit hard, as a word of change.

There is a love of the word capital. The merging of nature with capital = Natural Capital, is a very sneaky way to put a price on nature, the first step in turning it into a extractive commodity, which Wall Street is very keen to do, given the profits that can be made, and the desperate need to access another profit pool to feed the rapacious beast of capitalism.

A lie is a lie. There is an intent to deceive, obfuscate and betray.

To propose that we call this something else is to pave the way for lies to be normalised. We crossed that Rubicon way back when they were called alternative facts.

We must restore accurate naming as if our future depended upon it, which it does, and we must never overlook the little atrocities as they occur.

To do so is to participate in the rise of evil.
