Attending to our own state
If we are angry, even with a subtle anger that brews below the surface, virtue is hard to find.
If we are filled with righteous indignation, virtue is hard to find.
If we are inflated with our own importance, virtue is hard to find.
If we are busy and focused on things, awareness of otherness is hard to find.
To be of service, to be able to do virtuous acts in the world, to ensure we can leave everything better, we must first attend to our own state.
