David and Goliath-All giants fall in the end
One of my favourite metaphors, as a small person in height (5’1” – 156cm), I knew intrinsically that my strength had to be of character and determination.
How easy is it for us to be intimidated by the size…of a person, of a company, of perceived power, of financial wealth, of the weapons.
As an Australian, small of population compared to so many other countries of similar size, and therefore less considered in political might globally, we also know the David and Goliath metaphor.
Our might of recent times has been in sports.
Yet we as a nation are now playing David to one of the mightiest Goliaths of our age. Facebook.
I am not sure that Mark Zuckerberg has any real clue the adversary he faces. When a Goliath pushes on Aussies, we hunker down.
While I do not agree with the strategy that the Australian government is taking in this face-off, I agree with their commitment to not deflect.
By removing not just news feeds but essential services information from the Facebook feed, the Facebook has inflamed the ire of regular Aussies who loath the bully, especially the bully from somewhere else.
This game has not played out to its full yet, however the precessional effects are only beginning to gather momentum.
If we look to history we see clearly that Goliath will lose in the end. What has been its strength becomes its weakness.
The ego and arrogance that comes with immense power and might is the doorway to downfall.
When facing your own Goliath, the impossible task, remember the small. The persistent. The seemingly insignificant. The trimtabs.
Look for the cracks, and stay the distance.
All giants fall in the end.
