Drinking pure love
We stayed the night in a beautiful town in the South of the North Island of New Zealand. Greytown. Part of the Martinborough wine region.
Apples growing on trees, ripe for the picking and eating.
Blackberry vines everywhere, with fruit wanting to stain our lips.
Yesterday we visited a few wineries and are going back for more today.
One was memorable. The winemaker, owner and namesake of the wine, Poppy, was the most memorable host. Chatty in the classic New Zealand way, yet also effervescent, and clearly passionate about her craft.
Her story of becoming a winemaker and vineyard owner was equally delightful. A trail of happenstance that became a love affair, and included her partner, creating a synergistic team.
In Syntropic World I teach about the Pattern Integrity of the Source Idea. In the wines of Poppies Vineyard, you get a chance to taste the Pattern Integrity. Even in the wines I did not like so much – too sweet for me – you could taste the complexity, the thoughtfulness, the incredible mastery of the winemaker.
I remember a long time ago watching the movie Like Water for Chocolate. As a baker, I know the alchemy of food. How, when we take amazing ingredients and pour our love into the baking, love is able to be eaten. Food that would normally be considered unhealthy can, for this moment, become vital and nourishing.
Wine made with extraordinary love is like that.
The invisible made visible and tastable.
Drinking pure love.
This is the artisan. The commitment to integrity is everything.
