Empire to fall
Departures and endings.
Leaving and completing.
There is a step into the liminal. One door is closing. No going back.
It is simply the scale of the ending that matters; each night we end, and each morning we begin again.
Many years ago, I realised that life is wonderful because of the highs and lows. The rollercoaster ride must have the dip to get the rush.Â
But how we resist the lows, the difficult, the challenges.Â
The pearl knows the value of friction.
As we leave Taiwan and head home, there is a deep recognition that we are not the same people who departed a few weeks ago. This is not a transformative change. Yet it is incrementally significant.Â
As someone who loves systems and cultures, I experienced firsthand the culture that creates different systems from my familiar ones. I was reminded again that the human family has more in common than we do in our differences.Â
I was touched by kindness, graciousness and a genuine desire to help.Â
I was reminded as well that the war games and political posturing are rarely for the good will of the people.Â
I briefly listened to the news feed as we exited our accommodation.Â
We have allowed pedophiles and criminals to do as they please, giving them access to ultimate power. We punish everyone else for the most minor transgressions.
It is a deeply unfair world. And most of us know it.
Integrity matters. In all things.
I have been touched by beauty – of scenery, people and the human spirit.Â
As I depart this adventure, I am reminded that nothing stays the same. All empires fall. The Lady Justice and our Mother Gaia play a long, long game.
My heart is full. I know not when, yet I do trust in the goodness of humanity. We, those of us who live in right relationship to self, family, our neighbours, the world and our creatures, have always been the place where transformative change happens.
The time is nearer each day for Empire to fall.
