Empires fall

It is the law of gravity. What goes up comes down. 

In these last desperate days for the US Empire, all the patterns of demise are there.

Greedy, vainglorious rulers who spit on the ‘common’ people. Capture by big money blinded by their historical black gold rise to wealth, dinosaurs in lag. Holding countries hostage, bullying the tactic of choice. Increasing disparity between the haves and have-nots. Desperate acts of violence to sway rogue countries to submission. 

Yet precession is in play. Countries realise that backing the hegemony is now foolish. Instead, they form alliances with one another. China becomes the leader in clean energy, and energy is where the power is, no pun intended. The Empire has lost this hand without even knowing it. 

The global south, finally shrugging off the mantle of being called socialist for caring about their people and wanting to maintain the rights to their natural resources, form alliances, as the hegemony continues to brand them as evil, or terrorists, or whatever fear-mongering title grabs the zeitgeist. 

The question of this Empire’s fall is whether it will be like a candle snuffing out, or will it be violent?

And, will it be replaced by another Empire, or can we humans be done with Empires? 

I suspect violence, and I hope for global collaboration and coordination to replace Empire.
