Endurance and speed

Endurance and speed

As a runner and swimmer, training for endurance is very different to training for speed.

Very different mindset, very different approach.

The majority of our business, economic and political world for the past few decades has been training for speed. Short-term profit maximisation. Focus on getting re-elected instead of serving the people. Externalities are pushed onto someone else’s balance sheet. Consequences to be avoided or passed on to another generation.

Endurance is steady, and solid, aiming to be present at the distant finish line.

To build a business for endurance is a completely different mindset than building a business for off-the-charts growth.

Some businesses need to be short-term. We should know the endpoint. Others need to be designed for endurance.
