Falling down – living a juicy life
I fell twice today on my trail run. The first soft, the second hard.
When we were kids running and falling was a daily occurrence. Skinned knees, broken bones… considered normal in a child’s life.
How did we get to a place where protection and safety became the most important story and the great outdoors, with its dangers and glories, became off-limits?
Where is adventure, questing, exploration?
What exactly does it mean to be safe? And what is the cost of our over emphasis on safety? The litigation society. Wanting to blame, extract, exploit.
How does living in the cocoon serve us, if at all?
Perhaps the movies and stories of adventure…the justice fighters… truth-tellers…willing to risk all..are so common now because we have shut down our own willingness to risk.
There is this sweet spot, this dance, between the crazy stupid risk, and the extreme inertia and boring of safe.
And somewhere here, in this sweet spot, is juicy life.
You will find me there. Leaning to surf in my sixth decade, running trails, dancing in public, creating a new enterprise, falling wildly in love.
