Group think and calling a spade a spade

The danger of a community that does not enable and encourage robust debate and difference of opinion is that we slip into group think. Same same. When we add to this the human desire to be liked, to not ruffle feathers, to maintain the peace, we create dangerous situations where illusion, even delusion infests and becomes the norm.

To speak the truth, to call a spade a spade, to voice that small quavering sense that something is not quite right, to dare to ask the hard questions, to potentially burst the bubble of group bliss, has a risk.

In some groups, this risk is seriously life-threatening.

To design into the group/community agreement the space for real debate, to challenge the sacred cows, to call out the emperor without clothes, to design polarity into our agreement, and then to give people the skills and tools to speak truth to power, to speak the difficult, and do so in a way that honours versus belittles, adding these elements is a part of how we create a Syntropic Enterprise.
