Hand wringing and hoping for better

I was out at dawn this morning, walking beachside as the winds from Cyclone Alfred practised their warm-up routine.

The streets were quiet. No one was in the surf. Not even the pros who have flown in from around the world to catch the swell.

The small crowd at Snapper Rocks were mesmerised by the savageness of the ocean crashing across the rocks, meters from where we stood.

Alfred is not sticking to plan. He has slowed down, and is now due to hit us Friday afternoon, not early Friday morning. This is not necessarily a good thing, although I prefer a daytime arrival to the middle of the night.

The news feed is another form of cyclone. Deliberately cruel and savage to the marginalised, the Ukrainians, Palestinians, and people of colour.

If there is good news, it is that people are finally becoming awake – woke – to the corruption, hypocrisy and exploitation of those dictating their disgusting might, chain saws in hand.

A friend who voted for the current US administration because she liked the policy of RFK around health, still seems to be happy with her decision. If there is a sign of US arrogance and imperialism, it is surely that you get to improve your health (It is seriously questionable that this will happen under RFK) while you throw whole nations into the scrap heap and threaten allied Nations like Canada, saluting to Putin on the way.

A bargain with the devil is still forming a relationship with the devil. There will be a toll. And that toll is likely to corrupt the soul.

As I wait with about 4 million others for Cyclone Alfred to have his say, I contemplate the often-asked question.

Do we, those who are creating new models, maps and tools rather than trying to fix the broken, speak only of the beauty and possibility of that world? Or do we also address the distortion, the fracture and the evil?

One of the central Principles of Syntropic World, a Universal Law, is the Principle of Polarity. To up, down. To good, bad. To right, wrong. To Syntropy, Entropy. Both coexist. To speak only of one is to be part of the problem.

To this day, almost every changemaker I have come across, good people working wholeheartedly, is not really doing transformative change. They are not at the enormous effect of what is happening. So tinkering it is.

I will write of the dark, and the light.

At this time, because of humanity sleepwalking to the abyss, I will write more of the darkness. We need to look it fully in the eye.

Based on the still lackadaisical response to the regime in the USA, I do not think we as a global community have done this yet. We are still deep in denial. Hand wringing and hoping for better. Paralysed, perhaps, by the shock.

So I write.

We need to do all we can to get people to see it. To be broken out of the spell.

I think of the movie Don’t Look Up, and I wonder if that is our fate. All the evidence clear. But denial is more palatable and profitable.

I hope not. So, more speaking, more writing, more appealing.

Change is never comfortable, often unpretty.

Beauty exists because of the shadow and the light. I write to both.
