How to be happy even when…
We know there are people who are cold, hungry, lonely and terrorised.
When we despair at the cruelty towards our beautiful Earth, her trees and creatures.
This morning the contrast of a wonderful early morning surf with my love, and my love then intervening with a domestic violence situation playing out in public. This young woman going home to danger, as so many women do, more especially at this time of year.
A pair of King Parrots, male and female, greeted us on our balcony as we ate breakfast. Yet we clean fell forests to make way for housing. All the trees are gone because that is good economics! (In what world is that good economics? Not the world I long for.)
I might feel guilty to be so happy. But guilt doesn’t add to a better world.
Can we hold gorgeous happiness close as we refuse to ignore suffering?
Perhaps this is the only way to a better world. Suffering begets suffering. Happiness without hubris is healing.
