Humility is very good medicine
My learn-to-surf adventure continues. At a snail’s pace. Despite my almost daily commitment to be in the water.
Learning to read waves is one part of the giant puzzle. Even if you surf the same break, the conditions are never the same. No two waves are the same.
Finding the peak, timing, not too far in front, not too far behind. There is a language to waves that takes decades to know.
It is a humbling place to be.
Humility is very good medicine, the kind of medicine every human benefits from on a regular basis.
Eat your greens, get your fibre, get enough sleep and eat humble pie at least once a week. This should be compulsory medicine for every world leader.
Surfing gives me a daily dose of humble pie.
Those waves will toss me about like a matchstick. Add to my matchstick body a lethal surfboard, mix in other humans and danger is amplified.
Humble pie.
This morning, I ate a large portion of humble pie.
