I want to live like Alexa
I was listening to the story of Australian Paralympian gold medalist and two-time world record-breaker Alexa Leary and her unedited, fully present post-race interviews.
Alexa spent many months in a coma following a terrible bike accident. Her parents said goodbye to her eight times.
Now she has two Gold Medals and broke two world records. Her entire attitude is joy. She says she has been gifted a second life. She lives the gift.
It is a worthy reflection. Every day living as if this day is precious. Which it is.
I reflect on my late arrival to love and true partnership. The miracle of that. How I made a promise to myself to never lose the connection to that early passion, the awe, surprise and delight of being in such a partnership. I work to maintain that feeling every day.
I think about the petty troubles of daily life. Technology misbehaving. Someone being rude or disrespectful. Worry about this and that.
I think about Alexa. Given a second chance.
The contrast is powerful.
I want to live like Alexa. Fully alive, fully present. Joyous.
