Imagine a future together
I search inside me for a way to navigate my relationship to those many people of the world who are at generational effect of racism and dismissal as humans.
I walk the lands of people who inhabited these lands for close to 60,000 years. They did not ask for the arrival of my ancestors. My ancestor’s arrival was not my fault.
How do I walk and live on this land as someone who has benefited from the horror inflicted at the hands of people who may have been my ancestors?Â
This story is not new. Every place on Earth, with rare exception, has an expression of the dominated being decimated by the dominator. The story of possession of place, of power over, has soaked the Earth with the blood of innocents. It continues, right now, as I write.
I was born innocent, like all children, into a context, innocent of the context itself.Â
Learning the context, learning the horror and hate that has blood soaked the land, must be the starting point. Not a sanitised version. The full horror must be told.
Not to shame. Not to riddle with guilt.Â
But to witness.Â
And then we must come together, across the field of pain, and find a way to be together, to imagine a future where all of humanity is dignified.Â
In this future, the impulse for supremacy, greed and dominating power must be rooted out at the seed.Â
We must imagine together. And then get to work creating the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.Â
Together.Â
