In flames and tears
The people building AI earnestly believe that AI could kill us all by the end of this decade. In four years!
We might ask: if they do believe this, why are they still building AI in a mad frenzy?
But the question is not as gobsmacking as we think.
The world is on fire. The ice is melting. People are dying. Whole ecosystems are collapsing. We know why. We have known for many decades. We have made many limp-wristed pretences that we are doing something about it. But in 2026, as whole cities suffocated and collapsing glaciers swept away lives, we are actually doing nothing.
Zip. Nada. Zero. Nothing of any consequence. The people of Nepal, as an example, are being asked to pick up the life-and-death tab of the wealthy Western countries’ insatiable addiction to more. When they seek reparations, the shock from the wealthy is real and the lack of action even more revealing.
It’s going to happen anyway; is the death stage part of capitalism speaking, unable to help itself. The tech bros have built the bunkers already, under the illusion that a bunker might save them.
As a sitting US president spouts such lies on repeat – today he repeats his lie that he was rescued from the scene of 9/11 – those in charge of the keys have gone barking mad.
The recovering heart attack patient, 80% of the time, goes right back to the lifestyle choices they had before the triple bypass, eyes wide open as to the choice they make.
The addictive cycle has to end. The madness.
And it will. In flames and tears.
Crazy rarely makes sense.
