It is possible to not suffer
Our current economic system, called capitalism, has poverty as a feature.Â
I know the effect of poverty. I was a single self-employed mother. I know the fear of opening bills. Of wondering how to make it through the next week. The daily stress that lasts years and the trauma it leaves.
I determined to understand the trap I was in, to learn whether it was just me and my ‘failure’ or whether I was a pawn in a bigger game.
This meant I had to understand the system, reconcile my relationship with money, examine my sense of worth, become clear about the enculturated training to ask for less, be last in line, give my skills away, and say yes to doing things for ‘free.’
It took at least a decade of study, commitment and unhooking my being.
Syntropic World is playing a long game towards changing this – not the superficial structures, but the root of the root of the capitalist system that is designed to impoverish and victimise the majority as they speak about opportunity available to all. (This is a lie.)
We do not play the same game. We are building a new model. To that end, we offer many of our products and tools for zero fees, or for low fees. We invite people o apply for scholarships, and we have never denied access to anyone who commits wholeheartedly to the work we offer.
At the same time, we charge good fees for our classes. There are people in the world who have an abundance of money and a scarcity of other things. In the end, it balances out.
If Syntropic World was constantly in poverty of resources we would not be the model of possibility outside of the capitalist system. I want our community to thrive, to experience creativity without the constraints of fear and worrying about how to pay the rent.
If we said yes to poverty, if we gave our work away to all without charging a fee, we would be playing the same game we seek to break down.
It is possible to have profit be a precession of great work. It is possible to cap profits to serve others. It is possible to not suffer.Â
In principle, we never use the word ‘free’ because the moment we do, we debase intrinsic value. My work is not free. Your work is not free. Sunlight is not free.Â
