Little losses
There is much talk about resilience and how to build it. In a world that has become obsessed with all children getting a medal for trying, the consequence or precession of this, is we do not get to process little losses.
When we experience a little loss, it feels big. The pain is real. Rather than deflect this pain as if it is irrelevant, if we take the time to allow the full measure of its experience, to grieve what was possible, and to explore its depth and edges, we might learn its value in building our capacity for resilience.
Little losses are the rehearsal for the bigger ones.
