My question for you on this last day of 2024
The Pacific Ocean is a lake. Not a wave. There were dolphins right where I swam out.
It was hot, so we took our little dog Milly for a swim. She was not happy in the water, but very happy when she was back on land and cool, jumping and running around.
The joy and feeling of aliveness after the fear and pain is quite the thing.
The pain of getting up in the dark hours to witness the sunrise and experience the joy of it.
The pain and commitment of the gym, to have strength and agility. To feel good in my clothes.
The pain and denial of saying no to the extra…glass of wine, chocolate, serving of food…
To feel good. To be healthy.
The discipline of writing every day, even when I don’t feel like it, because there is a steady build of self-reliance and trust. Assets that we discount, yet are priceless in a world where self-reliance and trust are eroded at every turn and mental health becomes more fragile.
So my question to you and me on this final day of 2024 is…
What pain do you choose to embrace in your life? What is the pain and discomfort that you will commit to in order to feel strong, alive, successful, purposeful, self-reliant, financially and physically viable and trustworthy? Or whatever you truly desire to feel?
Choose the pain. Confront it. Commit to that. On the other side of the pain and discomfort is what you really desire, but first, the pain.
