One step forward ten back
Picture this.
A little enterprise, one that has been carefully, thoughtfully and lovingly cultivated for four or five years, with a very clear purpose to transform the way humans coordinate in Universe for a world with a future, is offering a very similar purpose and model to a very new, not yet started enterprise.
The new enterprise has just discovered the one that has existed for a few years.
What do you do if you are the people behind the new enterprise?
Do you decide to forge ahead with your new enterprise, even though the overwhelming majority of values, beliefs and tools already created and in use are demonstrating success in the older enterprise?
Or do you join forces and find a way to collaborate and cooperate?
Add to this mix that the existing enterprise is led by women. And the new one is being created by men. (Just to stir the pot a little.)
One thing I am very clear about is that if the Purpose and Pattern Integrity of two enterprises are very aligned, then to compete is to deny the principle of synergy. If there is a difference in Pattern Integrity between the two, it is a non-starter, as Pattern Integrity differences set the scene for future messy heaps.
The Pattern Integrity and Purpose are key. The form of the enterprise can be expressed in a million ways. Alignment around a form, when motivated by the Pattern Integrity, can be difficult work. It must be motivated by both the purpose and the enterprise agreement that is integral to relational design from day one.
The ultimate decider is none of these things. It is power. Who wants the power and why? Is there a big enough capacity and willingness to relinquish power in service to a purpose greater than self?
Can power so familiar to men to claim be granted to support women?
I await what happens with curiosity. In truth, I am not hopeful.
These are the intersection points that can change what we have towards what serves humanity.
Slowly, slowly we progress. One step forward, ten back.
