Our future as a stakeholder

In many of the business-as-usual packaged as social enterprises, there is a dissonance between the stated goal and the mechanism to achieve it.

When we market a product that is to uplift the very poor, but simultaneously will enable outsized profits at little risk for the wealthy investors, there is a fundamental violation of integrity. The dissonance between the two intentions will eventually contaminate the whole. Corners will be cut, corruption will surface, greed will reign.

To sit in the conversation….what is profit? What is healthy profit? What is excess profit? What do we do with our profit? What is risk? Who is risking? Who is not risking? What is the right amount of risk?

These are not ‘lite’ questions. The conversation itself generates alignment or surfaces a future fracture at the front end of a project.

To create solutions requires a whole systems consideration. It means taking time to speak to all stakeholders, including our future as a stakeholder.

Having the conversations around profit, risk, what is enough, who has the power, what is power, who has control, what is control, when do we distribute control, what is equity, who has equity..how do we provision for our enterprise in a way that is deeply aligned with our purpose….

These are questions asked by those seeking to create enterprises for a world with a future.
