Recalibration of over compensated polarities

The tension between body and mind, ancient and contemporary, wild and tamed, certainty and uncertainty, male and female is one that needs to be present for the relationship between the two to hold its shape.

When the balance between ancient and contemporary, for example, is tipped more to one side, and is anchored in the one sided preference for a time period that neglects the other, the recalibration may, for a short period, be sharply tilted towards the neglected other. We may focus more on the neglected ancient in our desire to balance out the long term neglect.

We must realise that both are necessary, and that over preference of one or the other is not a solution, but might be a temporary focus in order to recalibrate the system.

For those who have occupied the position of preference as the order of life, this will feel discombobulating. Even threatening. If it is presented in the larger context of an invitation to the whole, as a short term recalibration, that might assuage some of the angst that comes when the spotlight shifts.
