Regeneration, colonisation and syntropy

One of the key principles of a Syntropic Enterprise is to start with the whole in our consideration. This principle of principles, known as synergy, is stated in the following way. The behaviour of the whole cannot be determined by an examination of the parts separately. No amount of examination of sodium or chloride will determine that when we combine them together we get a white powder that we sprinkle on food.

Regeneration – regenerative agriculture, regenerative health, regenerative societies – is a restoration process. To RE generate. Desperately needed. Our farming, soil, oceans, air, communities and bodies are so depleted, poisoned and monocultured.

Yet to consider responses to regeneration without considering the whole ecology is similar to hoping to know a butterfly by examining a caterpillar.

We must look to the historical roots of depletion, erosion, extraction, extinction.

We must know colonisation. That we might be the colonisers. Still, to this day. We must know capitalism. That we have, for generations, profited off exploitation of peoples and land.

We must become intimately familiar with our very systems that have colonisation embedded, systems and approaches that we do not even question.

This is both an educational and untangling process. 

To practice regeneration without also considering how we might make reparations for colonisation is a needed yet partial response.

Syntropy is a whole systems approach.
