Seize the day
It was cold. Dark well beyond my usual time to get up.
Blue sky of the previous day had been replaced by clouds. No warming sun to defrost cold bodies.
The sunrise was spectacular.
In the dawn light we donned wetsuits and paddled out beyond the shore break.
The only two in the ocean for as far as the eye could see.
Had to keep moving to stop the cold winning.
Fun to be had, learning to speak the language of waves.
The dash to the car, wrapped in towels. A hot shower. Breakfast of the hungry, the only way I like to eat.
There are so many elements of this story I might well have said no to in the steady slide into comfort and safety.
Strange, we do not find life, aliveness and exquisite pleasure in comfort and safety on endless repeat.
We must seize the day. We must embrace the discomfort. Love the whole.
