Selected separation

Selected separation

A refusal to keep up with technological and cultural change is a form of selective separation.

When a younger generation has a fluency around forms of technology and an older generation adapts the stand of refusal to learn, the divide between the generations is increased.

This is wilful ageing.

Change is difficult. Technology can appear to be terrifying. Learning is a humbling experience.

My father’s willful refusal to participate in technology has prevented him from experiencing global family gatherings during COVID. For someone with a sharp mind and able body, I find this very sad.

I consider all of the many ways our culture separates and divides, preventing connection. Race, difference of culture, separation from nature and food sources.

Keeping up our fluency with technology gives us access to a richer world. It keeps us young.
