Take your stand superwomen
I was listening to a friend who has raised two children as an almost single mother, held an amazing career, and been a good daughter, sister and daughter-in-law, deny any association with being a superwoman.
I like humility. I respect it as a choice.
Truth, though, doesn’t require humility. Truth requires acceptance and acknowledgement.
Women of the world – or any person really – who go above and beyond to hold together a family, a career and social responsibility have some superpowers.
What makes superpowers? Focus. Attention. Dedication. Going above and beyond. Not quitting when the stakes are high, and the task is hard. Managing several competing scenarios and keeping them, somehow, in a delicate, imperfect balance. Facing the seemingly impossible and finding a way.
Until superwomen claim their superpower status, in humility, we will continue to be dominated by others who find this type of superpower claim as easy to say even when it has no substance at all.
Or, said another way, women remaining behind the scenes, accepting our erasure and diminishment, even when we are contributing significantly and in powerful ways, is not the path to changing the status quo.
Take your stand, superwomen. Do it with humility and grace. But take your stand.
