The kid in me is beyond excited

The kid in me is beyond excited

My view as I write. Gazing across the calm Pacific Ocean of Wategos Beach, Byron Bay. So many whales breaching and playing as they head south for summer.

Just gone 8 AM and already a surf, coffee and breakfast complete. Preparing to go out paddle boarding with the whales.

Two people stopped me and asked. “Don’t tell me you are working on a Sunday?”

This is not work. This is heaven.

A part of me is on my knees with gratitude for all of these options on this glorious Sunday morning.

Since writing these few words, I have spotted at least five whales in the Bay. So close to the shore. Such beautiful creatures. They elevate even the most hardened heart to awe.

I seize this precious moment of beauty-saturated awe to soothe the rough edges of a week of being stunned even more by human cruelty.

Look, look, two more whales breach. Three! The kid in me is beyond excited.
