The libertarian impulse is impossible in community

The libertarian impulse is impossible in community

Many years ago I participated in a three-day workshop about personal power. I recall becoming aware of the thought that the parts of myself that I hold back from gifting to the world rip me and everyone else off.

Bringing our whole selves, the entangled, always evolving, complicated, complex wonder of individuals’ uniqueness to our work, our art, is the opportunity for humanity.

Learning to do this in a context of kindness, consideration and care is important.

The libertarian impulse is impossible in community, as pure libertarianism is pure selfishness.

To grow up as an adult is to learn to bring the whole of our art to the world as the gift, and to do so with exquisite consideration – to attune to the patterns of Kairos time, seasons, cycles and context.

To grow up as citizens of Spaceship Earth is to enable all life to do the same in community on our home Planet.
