The one very small next step

The one very small next step

The next step can be a decision to pause, to do nothing. Often this is as important a step as any we might take.

Our addiction to doing something negates the power of sometimes doing nothing, to tune into the larger cycles of Kairos time.

The next step can be a decision to speak to a willing and wise witness to all the tangled confusions colliding in our thinking. To bring our jumble to the threshing floor, simply to be spoken out loud, and in the process, hear the threads that are there but not obvious until we create some distance from them by bringing them out in the form of spoken or written words.

The next step can be a question.

The next step can be a request. For feedback. For support. For witnessing. For holding.

The next step can be to move our bodies, to get outside, to go for a walk in nature. To change our state and the ecology we are in.

To confuse the next step as some major commitment, and in the confusion become paralysed by inaction, negates the power of the small next steps. Pausing, speaking, writing, asking, going for a walk…

What is your next step..the one that until taken cannot open the field to the step that comes after the first step?
