To be in debt

We are all in debt. What might be seen as shameful in the financial realm prevents us from recognising that all relationships exist with reciprocity built in.

Taking endlessly is a zero sum game. Giving endlessly leaves us husks.

It is the dance of giving and receiving, never in perfect equilibrium, where life and aliveness is found.

At the least we might recognise that we are in debt to the sun, the moon, the rains, the land.

People indigenous to the land never take without making an offering.

The colonial impulse has taking, consumption and rights over land and her creatures as an entitlement.

To be in debt is to honour the ecologies that enable our existence. We might begin with that.
