When criticism becomes a crime
When a state goes rogue and commits terrible crimes, what do we do?
Stand by and watch in silence?
Or stand up and speak?
If, when we speak, we are accused of being anti-semitic, racist, or traitorous to an ideal, should we stop speaking?
Criticism is never a crime. Silence is the crime.
When those we criticise, react with a charge, then know we have hit a hot nerve that holds some truth.
In this powerful interview, Louise Adler, Director of the Adelaide Writers Festival, and grandchild of holocaust survivors, speaks up against the crimes in Gaza.
“It is incumbent upon humanity to look at what is happening in Gaza now & say, ‘No, not in our name.”
